Train the trainer: Designing effective trainings for renewable energy transitions | 3 Days - Berlin

The global energy transition and industry decarbonisation require more than just technological solutions - they demand strong actors who can effectively share knowledge, align strategies, and drive collective action. Civil society organisations, research institutions, and think tanks are at the forefront of these transformations, providing science-based evidence, shaping policy solutions, and fostering inclusive dialogues on topics such as renewable energy, industrial decarbonisation, and just transitions. However, the success of these efforts depends not only on the quality of the content but also on how effectively it is shared and translated in action.

This training builds on participant's technical expertise by strengthening their ability to design and facilitate impactful learning and knowledge-sharing formats. Through interactive facilitation methods, participants learn to create engaging learning environments that respond to learners' needs, foster meaningful exchange and inspire action from the very first session. In doing so, they are equipped to design and deliver learning experiences that enables others to reflect critically, apply new knowledge, develop context-specific solutions, and take action to advance energy transition and/or industry decarbonisation. 

After completing the training, participants will be able to enhance any learning or knowledge sharing within their networks by using learning-focused tools and methods to guarantee the success of their workshops, trainings or other learning formats.

Specifically, participants will be able to:  

1. Analyse target groups' gaps and needs, and define relevant learning objectives as basis for the development of any type of learning format.
2. Identify, select and apply interactive learning tools and methods to design engaging, collaborative and effective learning experiences.
3. Develop and refine comprehensive concepts for learning formats of their choice (session, webinar, event, workshop, training) by integrating learner-centred tools, sessions structures and peer feedback. 
4. Use structured peer exchange and reflection methods to strengthen the design of learning formats.

Active learning, or ‘learning-by-doing’ is one of the core principles of Agora's trainings. 

The training programme is designed to be a mixture between theoretical input, hands-on exercises, group work and inclusive discussions that encourage participants to identify best practices from their own work context. We strive to create a healthy and safe, informal learning environment, where collaboration is encouraged and where mistakes are celebrated as part of the learning process. Participants will leave the training with the foundations for developing training and learning formats as well as a basic structure for their own learning format. 

Applications must be submitted by groups of 2-3 participants from the same organisation intending to participate jointly. 

The programme is open to think tanks, civil society organisations, and research institutes based in ODA recipient countries.

The programme is designed to strengthen the training and knowledge sharing capacities of institutions who are planning or interested in delivering trainings opportunities to their local civil society or allied constituency groups. Such trainings should focus on topics related to the energy transition or climate change. 

Participants are expected to have some technical knowledge of the knowledge they plan on sharing to their target audiences. 

Experience in hosting or delivering trainings is not a prerequisite.
